Good to know
About naming.
Why does the nakshatra decide the first letter?
Each of the 27 nakshatras has four padas, and each pada has a sound. Naming a child with the sound of the Moon’s pada at birth is an old custom, often done at the naamkaran ceremony.
Do I need the exact birth time?
Yes, ideally. The Moon moves through a pada in about six hours, so the time decides the syllable. A hospital record is best.
What if I do not like any names with that sound?
Many families take a name from another pada of the same nakshatra, or from the letters of the Moon sign. The syllable is a tradition, not a rule.
Do you store my baby’s details?
No. They are used once for this calculation and are not saved unless you create a free account.
